Welcome to Goderich

Welcome to Our Home!

If you're coming out of town, we’d love to share our favourite places with you. The Goderich Tourism page if full of excellent recommendations, but we’ve included what we would do below.

Restaurants & Taprooms

East Street Cider

Rotating seasonal ciders and local beers, it’s a great place to hangout for a drink. Click here for hours

The Old Saltie - Goderich Harbour Restaurant

Our local fish and chip joint; ordering and eating here is an experience. Located right at the edge of the harbour next to the grain elevators and the salt mine.

Ring the bell at the right window and order your fish and chips (and beer). While you wait for it to be ready, pick out the salts and vinegars you’d like on your meal. When your order is ready, they’ll call you up to the left window and ask which salts and vinegars you’d like.

Here is what we typically order

Fiona: Chinese vinegar, lots of it & Szechuan salt; and an East Street Cider

Will: Ghost Pepper vinegar & Hot and Smokey salt; with a Square Brew IPA.

Super greasy, beware a potential stomach ache

Ketchup is frowned upon and they will charge you for it

Other Places

Square Brew, Goderich: Local brewery

Part II Bistro, Goderich: Casual fine dining, family-owned and uses fresh ingredients that are locally-sourced whenever possible

The Black Dog, Bayfield: Featuring a variety of draft microbrews, cocktails & bistro fare

Activities

Sunset Watching

Goderich is an amazing place to watch the sunset over Lake Huron. The sun sets just after 5pm in early November. Watch from anywhere along the beach, from the top of the bluffs at Butterfly Park or Lighthouse Park, or another location

Ship Spotting

The Goderich Harbour is a busy place with lots of shipping traffic to watch. Algoma ships come in regularly to collect salt from the world’s largest salt mine and ships from all over the world (Malta, Seychelles, Poland, etc.) come to the port to fill with grain at the elevators. You can keep track of the ships you spot on the horizon as well as the activities in the harbour with this website.

The Guelph to Goderich Rail Trail

The Guelph to Goderich (G2G) rail trail is one of our favourite weekend activities. The old rail track spans southwestern Ontario from Guelph to Goderich and is 142km long. The trail starts down by the harbour at the historic Menesetung Bridge
